During the end of August and beginning of September a whitetail buck’s body is overflowing with dramatically increased amounts of testosterone. Contrary to what some may tell you, a buck is ready to breed from that point on. On September 7th Todd Amenrud did a test on a captive herd of deer to see how they would respond to estrus lure that early in the year. Although the author conducted his experiment in an enclosure, the tactic of using estrus lures early in the season works in the wild also. Here, the author’s brother-in-law Mike Berggren, poses with an early season buck that fell to a scent trail of Special Golden Estrus.
